Monterey Art Gallery

The Monterey Art Gallery first opened for business in October 1999 to provide affordable fine art to clients in New Zealand and overseas. It was the first gallery of its type in the area and it continues to provide a unique New Zealand art experience. The gallery, owned and managed by Sandy Starr, is situated in the heart of historical Howick, opposite one of Auckland’s oldest churches, All Saints.

One of the features of the gallery is the large plaster ceiling dome, over which is painted a beautiful baroque-style fresco by celebrated, award winning artist, Alvin Pankhurst.

At the Monterey we provide a warm friendly environment offering access to a wide range of artists and their works. Sandy is an accomplished interior designer and she encourages a consultation in your home to ensure the chosen piece is the right one.

The Monterey Art Gallery deals in paintings, sculpture, ceramics, glass and jewellery and only presents art from New Zealand artists.

Art and Music Combine at Thursdays @ Seven Concert Series
Thursdays @ Seven is a concert series at All Saints’ Church in Howick which presents around 24 concerts annually and has a strong and committed audience. Coordinators Katharine and Peter Watts believe that music and visual art enrich one another. Over the years they have built a strong relationship with the Monterey Gallery which means that every Thursdays @ Seven concert is enhanced by a striking artwork from their collection, carefully selected for the occasion by gallery director Sandy Starr.
