Belinda Wilson

Born in Calcutta in 1954 of New Zealand parents, Belinda came to this country in 1955 where her family settled near Timaru. Educated at Craighead Diocesan and graduated in 1975 with DFA HONS (painting_ from Elam School of Fine Art in Auckland. Belinda's first major award was the Kelliher art award in 1976 with her 'Pensioner' portrait.

Belinda then moved overseas to study art between 1997 and 1983 both in the USA and Europe, studying abstraction for part of the time with Nieves Billymer. Moving to Australia in 1984, Belinda's works were commissioned by many hotels including the Beaufort Hotel, Melbourne, The New Siebel, Sydney, Quay West, Sydney, Oceanic Hotel, Sydney, the Corn Exchange Hotel, Sydney and in 1989 a massive mural for Jupiters Casino in Brisbane.

In 1990 she completed a show at the Graphis Gallery in Woolhara, Sydney and continued commissions through the gallery after her return to NZ in 1990
